Re: Shingle Style Residence
Holy cow, this must have been a big job! Did you draw all the shingles individually? I can't see a repeating pattern. How many poly did this take???

Re: Shingle Style Residence
Thanks for the compliment! No, actually those shingles are an image with a repeat!
i can't remember where i got it from, but here it is.
It's a pretty big project, and i decided to update the ceiling. it was bothering me. the board lines were missing. it's re-rendering now.

Re: Shingle Style Residence
It's not my personal texture, I found it on the web. so I don't own it. You can use it as much as you would like as far as I'm concerned!
Re: Shingle Style Residence
great thanks dknight
Re: Shingle Style Residence
Edited my original post to show the revised image, it's also now full size.
Re: Shingle Style Residence
I must say, this is astonishing work! The ceiling is awesome! the hand rail wood is perfect, and the floor too!
The shingles do look like they are drawn as Al thought, we can't tell it's a texture!
Great work and design, I really like it.

Re: Shingle Style Residence
Thank you...
It was complicated.
We did a night study.
quite a few.
this is the only one i can find. We didn't keep them.
we kept doing this till we got an acceptable amount of outflow of light. we ended up with 3 sphere lights and 2 can lights with downward projection. The sphere lights are circled, the can lights are not visible as they are in the ceiling. but i pointed at them with an arrow.
after we did this, it was still dark. we did some post processing in Photoshop. I exported the files as an HDRI file (as you recommended some time ago) then i modified it to get the best results. I adjusted highlights and shadows quite a bit. I also doubled up on the day lighting (2) and the sun (1) in my lighting which helped alot.
We added some furniture to where you could see into the space as well. It came out great!

Re: Shingle Style Residence
For the night view, you should also include the sky as it would at night, because in real life, the sky do lit up some, it's not 100% black and 0% light. You can change the sky color and the light color it emit, maybe use 10% black as the color, 100% white as the diffused color and power of 0.1 or something? You can even use the sun as the moon, just make it white/white and for the power, well, I don't know, got to try!
I must say, you are getting very good at it, I'm very impressed.
