slow rendering

Post by Nick1 »

Hello,
I rendered a few interior scenes of a restaurant I designed a few weeks ago and Raylectron was working fine and really fast with all setting doing what they were supposed to do. I tried rendering another scene yesterday and it was really slow. Regardless of how long it rendered( sometimes it went up to 4 or 5 minutes), yet the Sample number stayed at number "0" and didn't go up. I don't know what has happened. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Any chance I could talk to Michael on the phone?

Thanks much.

Have you updated to 4.99.11? This bug has been fixed, where the ray keeps on looping sometimes when using transparent images like for trees (the leaves). Michael isn't around, been a long while.

Not talking about Michael Smith. I know he is no longer there. I was talking about the other Michael.
No I haven't updated to 4.99.11 yet. I know I have been using the CPU version since Michael Smith installed it for me at the time via TeamViewer.
Dumb question, shall I uninstall the current version and then download the latest CPU 4.99.11 version and install it? Or can I just install the 4.99.11 and it will update the older version?
I can call and talk to the other michael if it is possible.
Thanks in advance.

No need to uninstall, simply download the Installer (the update not the full) and it will update the files...

There are 3 Michael here. It's better to do tech on here or via PM so we can keep track for reference. Unless your request for phone is absolutely necessary?

Wow. I didn't know there are 3 other Michaels there! Thanks for the link. I already downloaded it and will install it. I'll get back to you if I run into any issues.

Thanks again.

Hello again,

I installed the latest version 4.99.11 and it is still the same thing. Very slow. After all the processing is done and you expect to see your model being rendered, nothing shows up. Even after about 3 0r even 4 minutes, nothing shows up. Its only after i click on the stop rendering button once or twice that an image appears and it doesn't get any better until I click on the stop rendering button again and restart the rendering again. It would be better if I can speak to one of your Raylectron tech person and he can see what I mean via TeamViewer and see how he can fix the issue. I need to do some renderings soon, so I would appreciate if I can call there and talk to someone on the phone while at my computer on Monday. When I call your office number, sometimes a lady pick up the phone. Whom shall I ask her to connect me to?
Thanks again.

This is not something we can fix via phone or TV. The best is for you to PM me your SKP file and I'll export it, render it and see exactly what the problem is and fix it.

Ok I will send you the skp file. Though it might very well work on your machine. It would be really nice if someone could go through the rendering process with my computer and see what I am missing and if he can fix it remotely. Attached is the skp file.

Lets take it one step at the time, lets see how it goes for me. Which version of Sketchup did you save your model with?

One quick observation...

My skp2019 say that there are problems with some edges, fix them? I said yes. Isn't your skp2017 say the same?

1. Your "Aluminum" material is set to 50% Reflection and 10% Shine, make the Shine 0% because the two together in some occasions will loop, there is no need for shine and reflection, one or the other only.

2. "light-track" is set as an emitter, what is it for??? I converted it back to Standard.

3. "LIGHT-TRACKLIGHT", the light bulb is recessed into the unit so part of it will glow on the inside, and, the cone part is set as transparent glass which again, will glow on the inside of the unit, all this may cause it to loop. The material name is Translucent... and Raylectron will automatically make it 100% transparent and 10.34% Shine. I renamed it. Because its size is so small, I had to make the Intensity 20,000. I would simply remove the light bulb and close off the unit and make that face (the one that close the unit) an Emitter No ray bouncing around in the cone area, faster render.

You got 48 emitters!, it'll take a while to render! Maybe set the Path Depth to 3 instead of the default of 12 or use fewer lights!

Make sure that all of your materials named "Translucent..." are in fact going to be treated as glass, otherwise, rename them.

I would also purge the geometry and then the materials.

Thanks much. I'll go ahead and correct those issues. I had a message once to correct an issue and I clicked the fix button and it was fixed.
1- will correct the setting on aluminum.
2- "light -track" are the 3 light fixtures above the coffee area as it shines on the picture.
3- I found out the other day that the bulbs in the track lights are quite small, so the last file I sent you yesterday actually had the whole inside face as an emitter, but I didn't delete the bulb part.
I'll go over everything again and try it once more.

Thanks much again.

I fixed all the issues. It started rendering fine was somehow the live update doesn't update the rendering right away. I waited 7 minutes and it still wasn't doing it. The rendering got updated when I clicked the stop render button and re-clicked the render button again. I know I have lots of lights and it would take a bit to update, but 7 minutes and no update?!!
Here is the rendering after the first manual update about 6 minutes.
Thanks.

With 112 lights, it'll take more to update. Mine took 5 min to update with 48 lights. You need to look at the % at the bottom, next to the Free memory, it would be like "This frame: 35%". Do you need that many lights? Combine the emitting faces that are clustered together into a group, say, 6 in a group and paint that group with the emitter material.

I did mess around with light faces a bit and somehow it went up to 112 and thanks for mentioning this. When I was done with all the lights, there were only 50 and I have no idea how in went up to 112.
I'll check them again.

Thanks much as usual.
