Doesn't work

Post by Jeffreyguy »

I have a model that I am trying to render(Attached) I am trying to render the inside of the room, but when I go to actually render it, nothing happens. It doesn't matter which method I use, the screen stays black for hours, when I use photon trace, a number will appear, like 36 photons, but that number won't chance and nothing will happen. It works with another model I have with no materials edited, just plain stock. Are there any settings that I'm missing? Thank you for your help :x

That's because you use section cuts in Sketchup to view inside, and expect Raylectron to know that, but it doesn't. So what happen is, the camera is outside the room, and or course there aren't any outdoor lights. So what I did is moved the camera inside at this position...

CamOrgX=157.881149 CamOrgY=44.004890 CamOrgZ=-1.242329 CamDirX=1.852654 CamDirY=34.938148 CamDirZ=0.000000

you can copy the above line and click on "Paste Cam" in the camera window, then try it again.

I also changed you light to power=20 and color=white because you have six lights, and it was way too yellow for me anyway.
I changes your window to dark gray and selected "Glass (thin)" which set the transparency to 100 and shine to 10.337 so it looks like glass.

Here is a quick render, couple of minutes...

Thank you, I did put the camera inside the room, but I found out that it was the glass that was doing it, I put blinds over the glass and it works fine. Thanks for the tip about the lights

Another thing, you can also use the "XRay level" to render through walls. But in your case, you have some columns outside which changes the level compare to the wall itself. But if you have a wall without anything on/in it or anything, you can set the XRay level to 1 if the wall is a single plane, or 2 of it is thick, and then you can position your camera outside and render the enter room from a distance.

We just updated to v3.10 which now can render through the Sketchup "Section plane". That's what you have in your model, so now you don't need to move the camera inside the room.

Also, I noticed that your 6 lights are on the same plane as the ceiling. This is a problem because when a ray hit at that spot, it can't tell if it hit the light or the ceiling because they both occupy the same plane. So move your lights down a bit, like 1/64" or more and it will always work. That's why you had problems with the photon trace mode.

Hi Michael,
thanks for raylectron, i seem to always get an error message each time raylectron is launched. I am wondering what could be the cause and what it means.

Hi,

It seems that you have an older version of libeay32.dll
What is the creation date of this libeay32.dll file? it's in your C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder and you can right click on it to view the properties of it.

Which version of windows are you running? Win8? win7? 32 or 64?
