Windows reflective but yet see through

Post by daleblack1961 »

I am getting a great look with windows by applying near black color and setting shininess to 20.00, however I saw someones rendering that had the same realistic reflective look but you were able to see curtains through the window. I have been experimenting trying to duplicate that with no luck. Any ideas?

I assume this is an outdoor scene not indoor correct? To see the curtains than you need to make your window 100% transparent with the same 20% shine and white in color (I would set the back face of the window to only 100% transparent and white) and your curtains will be visible. If there is nothing else to show other than the curtain, you can box (on the inside that is) the window including the curtain, make the box black so that it will have the same effect as the way you have it now except the curtains will be visible.

Here's an example... Outside window face set to white, 100% transparent, 20% sine. Inside window face set to white 100% transparent. Inside of the room all black except the curtain. Curtain is set to 100% transparent and 100% diffused...

Yes that is correct. No need to make the inside shinny since the camera is outside.
