No Toolbar

Post by TheRealFentonius »

Hello there,

I'm trying to give Raylectron a go to see what it is like (I think it might be overkill given the tiny scale of the project I'm doing), and am falling at the first hurdle.

I downloaded the GPU version, pressed the "punch" button and everything seemed to hang (for like 30mins). Fair enough I thought my graphics card isn't up to snuff. So next I downloaded the CPU version ("Raylectron_Setup_Win64_CPU"), installed it but when I restarted sketchup there was no toolbar and no "punch" button. During the installation there is a question that says something like "please select the sketchup version(s) that you want to load raylectron for...", and I would expect to see a list (of one version) underneath for me to select, however there are no entries below so my guess is that the Raylectron setup can't see the sketchup installation and so can't install it's toolbar.

I found a similar thread elsewhere on the forum, and your advice there was to look at the preferences menu and manually turn on the Raylectron extension, however when I go to that menu there is no Raylectron extension there to enable.

Thanks for you help

Peter

Hi,

So the GPU installer did show you the version of SketchUp you have but not the CPU installer?

Can you run regedit and list me what you have under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SketchUp ?

and if you can tell me the make/model of your video card I can let you know if it is good enough for Raylectron or not.

Hi,
To be honest I can't remember what the GPU installer said - you know how it goes, just click next, next, next! I can run it again though if it would help.

Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SketchUp there is a Default placeholder entry (value not set) and then a subtree called "SketchUp 2014". I'm debating reinstalling SketchUp to see if that will help?

My graphics card is and ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series and 1024MB memory

Your video card is not very good for rendering, especially with only 1GB of RAM on it because the video itself takes on a fair amount of it for the monitor, so the CPU version is better for you.

Under this key, what path is displayed? is it a valid path if you browse to the folder listed?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\File Locations\ComponentBrowser

Should be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\Components\

It says "C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\Components\" exactly as you predicted.

ok and is Sketchup.exe in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\ ?

If so, it should list 2014 in the installer. Can you install it again? and if it's blank again, can you send me a screen shot so I can visualize it?

Can you verify that in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\ there is a Plugins\Raylectron4 folder and Tools\RaylectronExtension4.rb file?

Ok,
Sketchup is located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014"

I've installed Raylectron again and I've attached a screenshot of the empty list.

Within C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014 there is no Plugins subdirectory.

Within the Tools subdirectory there is a RubyStdLib folder, and 3 .rb files: extensions, langhandler and sketchup.

Hope this helps ... Peter

I'm puzzled because I have the same identical skp2014 installed and it is showing it. Did you try to run the installer as admin? (right click, run as admin)

We've updated our download page to v4.39 This version will let you enter the SketchUp folder manually so this should work for you now.

Wow, what a service! I've just tried 4.39 and it seems to have done the trick - the Punch toolbar is now visible in SketchUp.
Thanks so much for sorting it out for me.
