Idiot question about preset materials

Post by TheRealFentonius »

Hi, I'm having a go with my first Raylectron render of my bathroom plans. I've had a look at both the intro tutorials and in both cases the chap makes changing the materials look really easy - he right clicks the material then clicks on "convert this material" and then chooses a suitable material from a long list. In my version the list has 2 entries "emitter/light" and "grass/fur". Where does the tutorial chap's long list come from - do I have to create it myself, do I have to click somewhere to turn on a preset list, or is it available to download from somewhere? The same goes for Nrml maps - I have a folder called Normal Maps but it is empty!
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,

Make sure you have installed the full version instead of the update, the full version include everything, the update doesn't include the environment maps and the materials in the convert list.

As for the normal maps, we do not provide any except I think for one, the pool water. But you can find a great deal of them for free on the FilterForge web site, and they include the diffuse image with the normal map.

Ummm, I definitely installed the full setup - "Raylectron_Setup_Win64_CPU" 21.1MB. Any ideas what I've done wrong - could this have anything to do with the toolbar problem you fixed for me a couple of days ago?

Maybe it installed it some place else! The installer should detect your "Document" folder location and create a Raylectron folder in it where all the files are copied. In any case, can you run Raylectron and open a model so that you can view the material editor, then next to "Convert this material" click on the yellow folder icon, it should open the "Favorite Materials" folder. Backup twice so that you are in your Document folder and unzip the following file in it. This will give you all the files and they now should show up in the "Convert this material" list box.

Yep, they were installed in the users\admin\documents\raylectron folder instead of the users\peter\documents\raylectron folder where the Raylectron program was looking for them!
Thanks again

No, just as a normal user, but my setup is that you have to give Admin permission in order to install a program. So Admin permission was given within the "Peter" user.

So the user Peter doesn't have admin rights and you have to use the admin to allow the install? Or does the user Peter is an admin already?

Sorry, I'm not being very clear. The user "Peter" is a normal user and does not have Admin rights. So when I installed I had to provide administrator permission i.e. via the user "Admin" who does have admin rights, but still logged in as user "Peter".
Hope that's clear (opacity 45 more like)...
