Switched Off Layers in Scenes not respected in Raylectron

Post by WLTalbot » Sat Sep 26, 2015 4:53 pm

Hi I am new to Raylectron,

Just imported my first model from Sketchup into Raylectron it has 8 scenes in the first scene there is some annotation that is on it's own layer, which I turn off after scene 1. Then there is a door to a bathroom that is on (layer switched on) in the first 6 scenes but for the 7th and 8th scene I turn it off (on it's own layer) so that I can see better into the bathroom. In Raylectron the annotation does not show, and the bathroom door does not turn off for the last two scenes, just stays visible. Works perfectly well in Sketchup before importing. Also, for some reason the orientation of the entire model is rotated 45 degrees counter clockwise from where it is in Sketchup after import for no apparent reason? Lastly, even though I created the lights in Sketchup they do not import as lights. I have to go in and manually select the "Light 1", "Light 2", and "Light 3" material painted grouped surfaces I created in Sketchup and convert them to emitters?

I'm sure all of this is because I am new to the software and you all will be able to quickly help me sort this out and send me on my way!

Thanks,

Hello,

The scenes only export the camera and shadow settings, not the geometry. Whatever scene was used when exporting is the way the geometry will stay for all the scenes. The reason it's like this is because we would have to export as many files as there are scenes. It is better if you export a scene at a time, just the ones you need or all.

As for the rotation, I have another user who said the model is flipped horizontally, and we have yet to find out why as it never happened to anyone else nor us. If you can, I would like to use TeamViewer.com so I can connect with you and find out exactly why this happens and fix it. Let me know via a PM not publicly.

The lights, to be automatically loaded as lights in Raylectron, the material name must begin with "Emitter" without quotes. So emitter #2, emitter ceiling, Emitter - Bathroom etc. The reason it's not Light is because there are colors named Light Gray, Light Red and that would really be bad as was the case in v3, so we changed this from Light to Emitter in v4.

One more thing, any material in Sketchup beginning with the same name as in the "Convert this material" list will automatically be loaded using the settings in that list, like Glass, Glass (solid), Chrome, Mirror etc.

If you export a scene at a time, how do you later combine them into one file? I need to do an animation and all of the scenes are required.

Is there a back button anywhere, in case you apply the wrong material or you simply want to undo your last action?

Let me try importing another model to see if the turns 45 degrees as well.

Thanks,

I know what you mean about doing the animation but unfortunately, it is not yet supported and we have been working on it. in sketchUp, it's easy because it's not a render (it's a game engine). For a renderer however, it require to rebuild the data structure for anything that moves and changes shape, so for every frames of your animation, the data structure has to be rebuilt and it takes time. Doing it in Sketchup like I said requires to export each scene in a different file and then check what the changes are in between them all. Not so easy, so, we are working on creating the animation of object right into Raylectron instead, it'll be easier and no scenes will be requires. For example, you'll be abler to use real physics to roll a ball, drive a car, open doors etc.

As for the 45 degree thing, do you use custom camera or use the Z control in Sketchp to roll sideways or anything?

We don't have an undo. We have it for the camera as do Sketchup, but no undo for anything else, especially for materials with textures, that would be hard to do and takes a lot of memory (save the texture and it's data, UV mapping etc.), that's why we don't have it.
