Rendering .avi animation problem . . . HELP!

Hey guys,

Thanks again for helping me with my instancing fiasco! Maybe you can help me with another problem, this time with animation.

When I go to render a short scene, Raylectron produces an .avi file, going through every frame as I would expect while rendering. However, when I go to open the file, the file opens in the player and plays with no image - just a solid green screen. I have tried all kinds of things - restarting the program. Restarting the computer, re-creating a new exported .obj from SketchUp. Nothing helps. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Marco

Hi,

It's weird! Can you PM me the video files so I can try to read the frames and confirm they are all green because maybe your player isn't reading it right?

Sounds like you don't have the correct codec on your machine...unless it's your player... from memory Raylectron exports mjpeg, so perhaps your player won't read it (unusual for such a common codec though). Try MPC-HC.

Hmmm. Same problem now for me... and I do have all the codecs. avi file plays fine in MPC, VLC, QuickTime etc, but when I import into any version of Premiere Pro... just green, all the way through.
Any thought support?

I don't know why but can you PM me the avi so I can check it and perhaps I can find the problem?

Wondering if you have any further idea about the green problem with the animation avi files in a NLE? At this stage I can't use the avis produced by Raylectron, in my work, unless I use a complicated workaround.

I sent you a reply to your PM containing the test AVI. It was as follow...

it works fine with just about any players except Adobe Premier!! I've read that you need to convert it to a lossless AVI first before loading it into Adobe Premier or get a codec pack. I didn't try it so I don't know if that works.

Adobe Premiere comes with mjpeg codec, so I don't think a codec pack will help. I am inclined to think that the avi wrapper is the problem.
At present I am deconstructing the avi to an image sequence which I then import into the NLE. But this is hugely cumbersome.
A future upgrade wish for Raylectron might include the ability to save to a Quicktime wrapper instead, or at least to an image sequence, instead of an avi.

Well, it plays no problem with Windows Media Player, QuickTime and many other low end players too so I'm not so sure Raylectron is to blame because if you rename the avi to mpg, Adobe Premiere load the file just fine!

Hmmm... that's strange... changing the extension to mpg gives a decompression error on all of my versions of Premiere, both PC and Mac.

have you tried MJPEG? Maybe your Adobe version doesn't handle RIFF, mine does but some codec was added to it. I think the native Adobe Premier can only handle DV-AVI (Microsoft AVI Type 1 and Type 2) and it's not RIFF format.
