Default settings when starting up

Post by RedRider »

Hi

I notice that whenever I open Raylectron from Sketchup, the viewport defaults to an odd size (1176 x 572 in my case). It would be nice to have the option for it to default to a pre-determined size (1920 x 1080 is a High Definition TV frame, and one that I use a lot). Am I missing something, or is there no way to have it selected at the size you want initially.

And also, why does Raylectron insist on my saving a new file immediately on opening up?
I'd prefer to set my angles, preferences and changes, and all the other things I need to do, BEFORE I save a .rof file.
Cheers

To set the size you want, run Raylectron and load a model, set the viewport size from the dropdown menu, resize your window and then hold down the Shift key and close Raylectron. Next time Raylectron load, it will use that size as the default unless a different size was set and saved in a CFG file.

When you export your model from Sketchup, it will ask where you want to save the ROF file, that's the geometry and texture data so that you can re-open that ROF file without the need for Sketchp. All the settings you make in Raylectron gets saved in a CFG file alongside your ROF file so that when you re-load that ROF, all the settings will automatically load as well.

In the Material editor, there is a dropdown box called "Convert this material" which contain default materials. The name of these materials can be used in Sketchup to automatically use them. For example, if you create a new material in Sketchup and call it "Emitter" or "Emitter - kitchen" (as long as it begins with Emitter) Raylectron will automatically know it's a light. If you name a material "Mirror" or "Mirror - bathroom" (again, as long as it begin with Mirror) Raylectron will load the Mirror setting listed in the "Convert this material" menu. So you can create your own material in Raylectron and save it as a Global and it will appear in the "Convert this material" list, use the name you give it in Sketchup and all the settings for it will load automatically when Raylectron load your model.

Thanks for the ideas, however:

"set the viewport size from the dropdown menu, resize your window, hold down the Shift key and close Raylectron"... I've set the Viewport size, resized window and done this, however Raylectron doesn't open to the correct size... it opens to a larger size, but not the size I selected.

Also , it would be nice to be able to start Raylectron without having to save a file first.

But never mind, these are only very small annoyances, and they are far outweighed by the many positives of the program.

Whatever the window size is, holding down the Shift key and closing Raylectron will save that exact window size, I just tried it. Perhaps you didn't hold down the Shift key long enough? or you were ask if you want to save any changes forcing you to release the Shift key to provide an answer?

You can create a shortcut on your Desktop to the Raylectron.exe file, the installer had an option to do that, unless you use the RBZ file. Then you can open Raylectron without the need to export a model first. Also, if you used the installer, you can double click on an ROF file to run Raylectron and load that model.

Maybe we are talking about two different things.

I would like to be able to have the Viewport open at 1920 x 1080... always, no matter what file I am opening.

If I close Raylectron using the Shift key process, when I start Sketchup again with a new model, then I open Raylectron, it doesn't set the viewport to 1920 x 1080.

I see what you mean, but what I've explained will do just that. Here is a video to demonstrate this...
