I didn't want to make the Nebula just a backdrop as you could get those online already and there are many out there. My goal was to make it all around the model and since it's bright, it should illuminate the model as do environment maps. I simply forgot to tell you that :oops:

I forgot to mention that the stars do not contribute to any lighting, but the nebula will, it's an environment map made on the go so it's not just a background, it will illuminate your model as if you had loaded an environment map.

The size of the model also matters because light attenuate at a rate of one over the distance squared, but also proportional to its area. God's ray on a huge sphere is not good, it requires way too many rays and it could crash :( Another thing, if you copied the sphere and scaled it larger, I think ...

Because it's a small window and light only comes in from it. For the artificial lights, you have the entire ceiling covered of lights, that is why everything is illuminated and no shadows as it is an empty room. You can get better results if you set your emitter's "Area adjustment" to zero...

No, they are not emitters. Pure color. No texture adjustment. I have not set anything for the turquoise stripes.
