Weird Reflections from 360degree environment map

See attached draft rendering of a mirrored sphere--it reflects the environment map of the room but the image "pinches" at the center where you'd actually expect it to be it's most convex (see attached image). Any idea why this would be, or how to fix?

Slightly off topic, but where can I get my hands on the 3D model used to generate the material sample images shown in this section of the forum?
