Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

ok i'll try it with 2.2

it was washing out my model badly... so i was very unhappy with the way it was coming out. but i'll try it with 2.2 before adjusting the other settings.

Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

this morning i ran with the env map on a fast small render. 4 mins. Tone mapping all set to 0 (as requested) and gamma 1. Sun orientation correct matching skymap. rear_porch_08 env map.jpg This one i set the following (turned the map to see how shadows adjust as well) BR 3 CA 1 LA .7 Gamma 1.6 rear_...

Re: SU plugin for making ornamental

i've found when using tone mapping, i turn my gamma to 1.0 as well.

this helps with that brightness and washed out feeling.

Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

Yes, i had it rotated based on shadows in the environmental map.
I'm actually going to let it render out over night based on using the environmental background map but shadows and sun for the lighting.

thanks for the info again... I'll post results int he morning.

Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

rotated it a bit... set intensity to 1.

gamma 1.4
brightness .1
br 3
la .5

having a much harder time to get the lighting right...
background is almost glowing now.

Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

Oh! so the sun isnt directed by the "Sun" in sketchup?

strange... how does it deal with time/date/angle and stuff like that?

we had a specific time/date/sunangle picked for our view...

Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

i had a hard time finding one that worked for us... landscape wise.

i threw this one in and the lighting is very off. I'm playing withe settings but the color gets wonky pretty quickly.

This one does work landscape wise.

Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

Those are good bits of info. I had been doing the same.

Additionally i was using almost identical settings except i only added .3 to the LA. I felt it was too "rich" or "vibrant" to go higher. adding gamma back in cuts it down a little.

i'll keep playing and let you know!

Re: Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

Hey, yes the background image is set to background. I'm currently using a 1:1 sun/sky setting. Adjusting the "Br" and "la" has resulted in better results... I'm hovering over those pieces now, but it has not told me what those settings are. I noticed that pumping up the LA gives ...

Best way to illuminuate under a porch (the ceiling)

So I'm working on a rendering and I'm a bit unhappy with the brightness under the porch. If i adjust the exposure, gamma, or tone mapping i seem to blow it all way too bright.

Should i install some ceiling lights? I'm concerned those will over illuminate the porch (as my testing had started to do).

Re: SU plugin for making ornamental

i've head that small objects are difficult to work with. and that sketchup can't handle it (not sure why). the fix is to take it up by a scale of 10. then do your work. then shrink it back down by a scale of 10. while it can't generate new things at that small of a scale, if things are shrunk, they ...

Re: Found an error in the timer this morning, and laughed.

made some minor changes (replaced the textures i used - then oriented them correctly for the wood grain). I've added it. Since i was doing it, i went ahead and fixed the wicker sofa and tables and added some texturing to the seat as well. i'll repost when i have time to re-run the render in the gall...

ah ok, I didn't notice it on the photo. They just need to line-up as you said. I think you'll have one happy customer when he'll see this. The furniture are ok, except the over-soften on the cushions that makes the shadows on them all wrong. It bugs me   lol... True. I've not mess...

Re: Found an error in the timer this morning, and laughed.

if you mean the ones below the green columns, yes. those are shingled. I should have done a better job aligning the texture. I think when i replaced it, they adjusted themselves. a few posts back is the actual in construction photo and they are there as well (to confirm this is what you're looking a...

Re: Found an error in the timer this morning, and laughed.

i think that's great...

the only reason i moved the camera was to really see the boards. if i could window an area that would take care of that problem completely. I'd give that one a thumbs up!

Re: Found an error in the timer this morning, and laughed.

I actually did it smaller, and moved the camera to look at the ceiling directly. let it run 2-3 minutes and then was satisfied. but yeah, I pump em out big and re-size depending on how we'll use it. I tend to let them run over night... they take a while. last one ran for 15 hours. this one will go t...

Re: Found an error in the timer this morning, and laughed.

I see it. I was looking for way more ... depth.

so i made a normal map. it worked well - you could argue i lower the bump a little. i slapped it with a 10. A 5 might have done as well with out so much emphasis...

Re: Found an error in the timer this morning, and laughed.

It's re rendering again. i decided i disliked the ceiling. created a normal map (because just adding bump alone looked wrong).

so it's working away. I'll post it when its done!

OK, here is what I've got.

I'm re-rendering tonight and adjusting:

Ceiling (no bump)
Trim (Lowering gloss and bump)
Handrails (removing bump)
and i made the can lights actual can lights.

here's what i got from last night.

Re: Found an error in the timer this morning, and laughed.

I made all the changes suggest. Had some shiny/diffuse on the floors and ceiling so i pumped it up more and made your recommendation changes to the paint. Worried the shinyness of the ceiling/floors will be too much. we'll see shortly. Tried the normal map too. will post an update soon. Thanks again...
