Nighttime lighting

Post by Brandon »

I did a set of images for a local realtor's new spec house project, but when I was done, I wanted to play around with lighting. I was determined to figure out how to do a good set of car headlights. Took more than a few tries to figure out how to produce a realistic-looking set of light beams, but it all worked out.

Very nice. Did you use the "Spot" effect on the light setting?

That didn't produce the results I needed. It turned out to require something very much like a real light system: a light source positioned some distance behind the aperture, only allowing light thru the aperture (sort of a crude pinhole camera in reverse). Also, I added a very slightly diffuse layer to produce a softer edge to the light beam.
