Water is not smooth.

Post by BKilburn »

I am having some trouble with the water settings. I have followed the video tutorial, but my water still does not look smooth.

Here is are two samples. One is Real and the other is Ambient.

Any suggestions, tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

If the face for the water the same for front and back? What are the settings you use for that material and what is the texture and normal/bump map you use? If you can send me your skp model, I'll show you how to do it in a video.

I don't understand the first question. The face of the water is the normal, front face (not backface)

The texture is the default Raylectron pool water.

I did watch the Raylectron tutorial, but I would be glad to send the model. Do I post it here?

you can PM me the mode if you like.

The front face (facing up I suppose) is textured, 100% transparent. The back face, facing in the "pool" must also be 100% transparent and pure white in color and it doesn't have to be textures.

also, the problem is that you have nothing to reflect off the water and the container is a solid color. here is a quick render of a swimming pool covered with tiles. The water uses only a normal map, no Artisan used. The back of the water face is only 100% transparent white, the front face of the water is also 100% transparent white but the IOR is set to "water" and a normal map to make the water waves. You can tell the deformation of the pool due to the refraction. In your test model, you can't see that since you use a solid color.
