As with the thread ‘Concept and design test for spaceport SG fanfiction’ from March this year, there's not really a story to this image either. I created some cargo ships for the Jaffa and with this image I just want to show the difference in size. I actually wanted to use the space port model from March. But this space port turned out to be much too ‘small’. Besides, the design from back then was intended more for passenger traffic. So I created a cargo port.
As with the design from March, the ‘roof’ is an energy field, which primarily serves to keep birds away from the space port. However, it can also be switched off when many spaceships arrive to make access easier.
The actual landing field is surrounded by a pedestrian promenade overlooking the landing field. Several pyramids can be seen in the background on the left, to which the promenade around the landing field leads. These buildings serve as accommodation for the crews of the cargo ships during loading and unloading, when the crew is not needed or when the cargo ships have to be repaired. The pyramid on the landing field is the headquarters of the customs and tax authorities. The shiny rectangles that you can see particularly well in the second picture, on the left and right of the landing field, are freight lifts that lead to the storage area under the space port. The row of buildings on the right-hand side of the image, which is located directly below the main approach path through which the spaceship is currently flying, is the spaceport control centre, which also houses the flight control. I have simply used the model from the other space port again here.
The large freighter just passing through the middle gate is a Heka'tar-class wide-body freighter, basically the Jaffa version of an ultra-large container ship
Parked on the landing field are, from left to right: Kasha-Class, Onmeta-Class, Piruda-Class and Kadjuf-Class freighters. The small ‘dots’ in a row in front of these cargo ships are Tel'tak, which I have inserted as a ‘canonical’ comparison size.
The first image was created from the perspective of a pedestrian, 1.8 metres tall. When I was creating it, I thought that you don't have such a good overview of the terrain from this angle. So I created another version with a view from a height of 25 metres.

This is massive, and the force field, how did you do that one? When I first saw it, that's exactly what came to mind. Seeing the architecture from up close like this is nice, it does look Jaffa
So the entry point is the roof or is there another entry point with normal bay doors?

Many thanks. The land field is 5x5 km, otherwise the freighters would have fit on it. Even with the small freighters it would have looked weird. The smallest one is 90x66x30 metersSupport wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 12:24 pm @Okwa

I created the force field using one of Sketchup's standard textures for glass, as I did for the March image. This time I only used your UV mapping tool for the texture. I didn't have that in March. (Did the UV mapping tool already exist in March? I can't remember). In Raylectron I set the texture to Diffusion = 5 and Transparency = 100, nothing more.
The arched openings on the right, through which the large cargo ship passes, are the actual bay doors. The roof is only an option if the air traffic exceeds a certain level. Otherwise, the ships all come and go only through these openings.

5x5 km, wow, that's HUGE!!!Okwa wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 3:19 pm Many thanks. The land field is 5x5 km, otherwise the freighters would have fit on it. Even with the small freighters it would have looked weird. The smallest one is 90x66x30 meters

Yes, it was there for a very long time
That's it? just the diffuse with the transparency? well, that turned out really nice

Re: Dakara "Kel'marok" Freight Space Port
@Support If you consider that, apart from the Tel'tak, the smallest freighter is 90x60x90 m and the largest one, which is currently flying into the spaceport, has a diameter of 1100 m, or 1.1 km, that makes 5x5 km seem pretty small. Isn't it?
It's the combination of setting the texture correctly in Sketchup - which is honestly the hardest part - and setting diffuse correctly. Transparency is only of limited importance for the effect.

1100m, well, only 4 can fir so yea, that makes it seem small indeedOkwa wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2024 11:10 am @Support If you consider that, apart from the Tel'tak, the smallest freighter is 90x60x90 m and the largest one, which is currently flying into the spaceport, has a diameter of 1100 m, or 1.1 km, that makes 5x5 km seem pretty small. That's why I use the ThruPaint plugin because the native Sketchup paint is so dumb.

wow, impressive, I love the force-field effect.
The Tel'tak are dots still hard to visualize the immanence size.
I had a suggestion, and it slipped away, brain fog? oh well, must not be important.

Isn't it? That's an order of magnitude that you could only realize in person on site.
