Battle over Danara

Post by Okwa »

I'm currently working on a image of the Battle of Danara. As a reminder of the story:

Danara was an insignificant world whose population were even 400 years after the downfall of the Goa'uld still loyal followers and believers of the former rulers. Since their world was located in a sector that was divided between several major powers in the Milky Way - a sector that was so militarily, politically and economically insignificant that no state laid serious claim to it - Danara was able to build a small interstellar empire: the Golden League of Danara.

In December 2375, however, it was revealed that Danara was conducting genetic experiments in preparation for the “war at the end of history, when Ra would be restored to his rightful place”. Although genetic experiments are not generally prohibited, Danara's experiments were among the most serious violations of intergalactic law. They were classified as war crimes of the most serious category.

Therefore, the Katada Arshataka (Goa'uld, roughly translated: Damnatio Memoriae, “Damnation of Memory”) was imposed on Danara in accordance with Article 1 of the Intergalactic Penal Code: “For planned crimes against the galaxy and preparation for genocide”. The Katada Arshataka obliges all interstellar nations that recognize the Intergalactic Criminal Law to participate in punitive measures against the League - in the worst case, even militarily. In this case, it meant the complete destruction of the Golden League and the occupation of the planet Danara.

The two images show three squadrons of Imperial death gliders of the Free Jaffa Empire attacking four destroyer squadrons of the Golden League. I have created two versions of the image, which differ mainly in the lighting conditions.
In the first image, the light is set so that the models are well illuminated.
In the second image, I deliberately chose a symbolic lighting mood: “The sun is setting for Danara.” This makes the models darker and less detailed.

Personally, I find the second version more atmospheric. What do you think?

@Support Many thanks, Michael. I reworked the original models for the League of Danara because the old models kept crashing in Sketchup. So I could hardly show 2-3 models in a scene. With the new models I can finally create larger fleets. So I'm now catching up on some image for the “Danara Arc” that I wanted to create 3 years ago.
