Rendering help

Post by RayW »

I’m posting this on behalf on our daughter. She’s in the Air Force and consequently with her work (as a Doctor) and this Covid thing, she has very little to no time as far as getting online. When she has a break, she’ll spend an hour or so to do some modeling, as she says in her own words, to wind down.

Now she’s asked me to give her a hand and while I have used Sketchup years ago for engineering models, I’m a little passed it to get into the 3d rendering. So I came here in the hope that I could get some help for her.

Currently she’s using the Trial version of RayLectron to see if it’s right for her. And while she likes it thus far for its ease of use; she still isn’t happy with the end results. Basically she said that what she is getting still looks like a Sketchup model, just prettier. I’ve add two screen shots of one of her models.

Hello,

The reason it's not looking so good in the render is because there is nothing applied to the materials. For example, in Raylectron, when viewing the model in Performance mode, having the Material Editor menu open, right click on the airplane body for example, then from the menu "Convert this material", select Shiny or Paint (or manually set the settings) and start the render, it will look way better. Do this for everything else and the cockpit glass, convert it to Glass. The Material Editor is where you adjust all your materials to be the way they should. If you know about bump maps, you can also load a texture along with its bump map to give more details, like bricks on a house, driveway etc. so it's not all just flat. We have many video tutorials on one website too which explains all this.

That helps a lot, thank you. I'll email her and then we'll see what she comes up with. I'll let you know soon.
