The Death Glider

Post by GateGirl86 »

So, I've been MIA for a bit. Sorry, blame Air Force :salute two weeks exercises, damn, that was hard.

Anyways, I did manage to start a new project during my break times, the venerable Goa'uld Death Glider and man, it ain't easy. The wings at least are not. So far still in the WIP stage, but I am getting there slowly.

OMG :o that's going to be a beauty once you're done. I know how hard it is, I gave up doing the HF-400 and it's not even close to be as hard as this. wow, I'm very impressed that you've made it this far :salute X a million

@Support @Okwa thank you both. I am going to be the first to admit its a challenge, I didn't think I could even get a start on it, the body (fuselage) was hard enough and honestly I was going to give it up, several times over. I'm glad though I've persisted with it, because yes, I think aesthetically, she will be a beautiful model and well worth giving it a try. :salute <3

@GateGirl86 @Okwa @BKilburn

My new tool, inspired by @GateGirl86 new ship, where making the wings was terribly hard for her. Well now, all you'll need to do is make the shape you want to start with, then the shape you want to end with, run the tool and it will connect them together. That's how I made the wings and the body too, took less than a minute to make the whole thing :) I used the Raylectron Tool "Mirror" to duplicate the wing on the opposite side. Now Mel, don't get mad at me for not making this tool before you made your glider :D

@Support I should be mad at you because you only do things like that when Mel needs it. :P  But I'm far too glad that you created the tool. It's very useful. Have you added it to the download yet? I just downloaded the tools, but I can't see any new ones in the bar. Only the old tools.

I know, but that's how I get these ideas :)

My mistake, "I'm working on a tool", not "I've made a new tool"  so it's not ready yet, still have to fix a few things that Sketchup isn't allowing and it's very annoying.

I'll post up shortly what I'd really like to conquer. It's driving me NUTS! Hence I've stopped work on it for the last week.

It's very different than Curviloft. Some of the things it does, mine doesn't and some of the things mine does, Curviloft doesn't. Mine is free and Curviloft is not

Oh! Well I'm glad you didn't. It'd be a long and expensive (for you) visit for me to have to come and mend your broken bones.

You're most welcome. I haven't been to the SKP forum for ages and I thought that post would be more than appropriate. And thank you Michael. :salute <3

@Support You really don't want me working on you, honestly. I have a reputation for being a bit OTT with my disciplining of my patients. I don't take any prisoners

aww gee. <3

@Okwa yes, sometimes I look at my work and feel it's not with publishing at the time. :ugeek:

However. Michael, this is my latest incarnation of the Death Glider wing. Would your new tool cope with this kind of shape. The second image shows the leading edge profile I'd like to generate, to say its a nightmare to do, is putting it mildly. And then I need to do a trailing edge as well.

@GateGirl86Oh, Mel, I'm not actually allowed to say anything. I have 2-3 year old models lying around on my computer that I still haven't posted. And when I think of all the tanks I still have to post. Actually, I'm busy with those alone until May, or even June. If I didn't post anything else. But then I do post other things.

I would recommend the SelectEdges and FollowAll tool for the leading edge profile Mel. Don't attach the edge to the wing, but create it a bit away. Then use the Select tool to mark the edges and then keep your fingers crossed and hope that the FollowAll tool produces the result you want. It can go wrong from time to time. But that's actually exactly what it's made for. :D

@GateGirl86 Yes, this new tool will do this easy. All you'll have to do is make the two end faces, select the curvature you want and generate. I'm working on the UI for it right now, so hopefully I'll have it done tonight or tomorrow.

ok got it, OTT etc, so I fell off my chair and broke a few bones

@Okwa 2-3 year old? Is that all? Some of my models stored in the cellar are so old, even the cobwebs have long since gone. They're the sort of thing that you look back on them, just to keep them to remind yourself just how bad you were back in the day.

Select edges and follow won't work in this case. I wish it would. The wings are tapered in thickness from the root to the tip.

@Support Well hurry up and finish it already. :excited:

I should mention I like to try my patients to go without anesthesia.

@BKilburn Oh! Thank you, that means a lot to me. :salute :salute :salute 8-) <3
