Backlighting?

Post by AnnaL »

Came across a request from a colleague to render a backlit panel. Is there any way to do this with texture maps or "layering" opaque and transparent materials, or another way that maybe I'm not thinking of? I attached the example she sent of what she is looking to achieve. In real life it is a solid surface panel that is routed out to be thinner and then a light source is placed behind it. Any thoughts?

@AnnaL I'm not sure what you need. I do understand but the picture is confusing. For backlite panels, you usually make them emitters and you can give it transparency too. You can apply a material to the panel, on both sides, with transparency and have a light behind it. But if you can give me more examples, like real pictures, I can help you much better.

Basically, the whole material isn't transparent just certain parts of it. Like, the thinner the material the more transparent it is. Here are some actual product images.

You can use a PNG image of the design where the lighter part is more transparent. However, if the patter is to be 3D, I can add to Raylectron a transparency setting based on thickness.

Would you have a sample model for me that I can use? I'll attempt to create a new transparency setting but based on thickness.
