Thanks! I was also able to create "material alphas" in Raylectron for any minor tonal adjustments my client would like. Here is a sample on the one that masks the lightest CMU blocks. These "per material masks" can be added as alpha channels in photoshop. Also created some for the glass, the awnings, etc.Image

Great. Did you use all .psd files in Photoshop and reconstructed the image using this?

Yes. I save the rendered image as an .hdr 32 bit file and then convert it to .psd 8 bit. That yields richer color and more detail in the texture. .hdr also helps create slightly smoother alphas. Seems to be no antialiasing setting in Raylectron.

There is no antialiasing settings because of the way the render works, anti aliasing is not based on numbers, it automatically anti-alias to more passes it does. What you need to do is use "Save with layers as" and it will default to PNG for the render image and then create 4 HDR files that you use in PS to re-create the full image, this include the masks of the materials.

Never was successful making anything useful from the four HDR images generated with the PNG file. I must do a study on HDR files and learn how to arrange them in Photoshop for optimum results.
Here is how I created the material alpha file pictured above in Raylectron:

1. Changed all material textures in MATERIAL EDITOR to a plain white .jpg (set all other options in the material editor to zero)
2. Set a white background in the ENVIRONMENT section and turned brightness up to 100%
3. Set the same white background in STATIC BACKGROUND
4. Set light sources to Environment map in ILLUMINATION with Ambient shadows (interior and exterior) and Brightness to 100.00
5. To create a material alpha, I simple go to the specific material in the material editor and change the texture to a black .jpg. Render at same camera setting as the artwork. 30 samples usually does it. Then change it back to white and go to the next one, etc. etc. saving each change to a picture file.

Labeled the configuration as NAME OF PROJECT-WHITE .cfg file for future use.

You can set this up in Modo to do automatically, but with a little extra work I was able to create black and white alphas for my renderings in Raylectron which are extremely useful for any material fine tuning needed in Photoshop.

oh my, you're doing this the hard way. All you have to do is, in the material editor, change the "Material layer color ID" to another color not used by another, this is not the color of the material, it's the mask color if you like. The 4 HDR are labeled, Base: the base image, Add: where you add it to the layer, Mult: where you multiply the layer over the others and Mask which are your color IDs mask. So in PS, you load #1, the base, then load #2 and make it's layer Add, then load #3 and make it's layer Multiply, then load #4 and make changes to the mask like changing colors etc. Then save as PBG or whatever and that's the new render output.

The mask layer will show all your color ID's as colors, so you use the color picker in PS to select a certain color and create a mask for it, then you paint over the previous layer, the Mult one and turn off the Mask layer to see the final result.

Changing the Material ID works great and accomplishes what I want to do. Wish I would have known this before inventing the other process. If it is in the manual I must have missed it. Thanks again!

Your expert help is always appreciated! As sometimes happens, the client wanted the lightest block greyed down a bit, so I used the alpha mask to do that without having to re-render. Changed the second picture to the third one in Photoshop. My job is now done and the rendering will be used for brochures and advertising while the building is constructed. Image
