Free Sketchup Plugins
Free Sketchup Plugins
@GateGirl86 @Okwa
I've made some Sketchup plugins, free, and I think you guys may fins some of them useful. Especially the terrain generator, the move axis to center. Some are already in Raylectron but I'll remove them to avoid duplicates and beside, they should be separate anyway.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Well, the description of the functions sounds great. I must say, some of these functions I have really missed painfully. Thank you.
And by the way, great new website layout.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
So, after some trying, the following experience report:
1. great job, hats off!
2. hint, for other users for the Terrain Generator: I have a relatively good PC. But Sketchup always crashes for me at grid sizes over 250. Up to and including 250, the PC only has to calculate a little longer, up to and including grid size 100, the generator works for me immediately.
3. first question: Please explain Sketchy Mesh to me: It always creates a somewhat wavy to more or less curved surface. Unfortunately I don't understand what this generator is good for.
4. second question: Move to ground level, does it work with groups/components? I tried it with two models consisting of several groups and components. But the models did not move.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Thanks, I'm glad you like them and the site too
2. Yes, I know, I should warn about too big of a grid. It's not meant as a dimension, it's meant as a division. Once it's created , you just scale it to your need. A grid size of 100 is 100x100x2 = 20000 triangles.
3. Sketchy Mesh is like the terrain generator except that it's based on a formula. So basically, the way that works is, it create a flat grid along the X and Y axis, then it calls the formula you've entered to set the elevation for Z (the up axis). So if you use a formula of sin(x) for example, the X axis will be a sin wave. Select some of the Examples in the drop down list to see what they do. Maybe it's not something you'll need but those who need to make a parabola can simply enter the formula for it, much easier than trying to shape one!
4. oh, it only works with components. I'll fix that.

I have updated the rbz so you can re-download it. I've made the Terrain Generator to show a progress bar and has a Cancel button. I've fixed "Move to ground level" to work with groups too.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Just downloaded,I'll get to try the functions over time and report back I know they will be great as always! Thank you Michael!

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Thanks. I know you will line the Guide at Normal because Sketchup never can place a guide on a face that is not on the axis of the model. Another one you'll need is to set the axis to the center of you component, very hard to do by hand, if not impossible.

Now that is just what I need. Thank you so much Michael.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Uh, the function to "automatically" create a sphere is really cool, and combined with another extension I have, I can now easily create even better asteroid/rock models. And the guide line function is also pretty handy. Thanks for these more than useful tools.
Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Great
If you think of something you'd like me to add to the tools, please let me know. I'm working on a new one, it's going to be part of the Sketchy Mesh, it's called Parametric, where you can make a torus for example and other shapes like gears.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
One question, will this work on 2017? I ask because I use that mostly for modelling. My 2022 version has a few things missing from it.

Yes it will. What do you have missing in 2022? maybe I can provide?

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
I have just updated it and the Sketchy Mesh now can use Parametric functions and there are examples in the drop down list that you can maybe use.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
In my 2022 version (from you), I can't cntrl+copy+move. It doesn't copy, only moves.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
ah, what I do is press the M key to invoke the move tool, then click once on the object to move, then move a bit and then press Ctrl and it gives me a copy and I just keep moving.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Hmmm, I'll try that. I guess I'm just so used to doing it one way.

Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
Don't well all. But it's sometimes better to use already made shapes and I'm working on it, especially shapes with curves. Like a Truncated Tetrahedron, it's a soccer ball, so that would be easy and fast to just select that than making one from scratch, and it's so simple, so it seems.

Wow! I can already see what I can use those for!
Re: Free Sketchup Plugins
right on
I'd love to have your input on how you use some of them, perhaps I can improve on them.
