Ha'tak of the Jaffa Nation (maybe WIP)
Ha'tak of the Jaffa Nation (maybe WIP)
This is a kind of WIP image. I continue to rework my previous designs with the help of and thanks to Michael's fantastic tools. The image serves as a test for some new designs. You can see a Republican Ha'tak, which is a Ha'tak of the Jaffa nation. The design concept for the Republic Ha'tak is to have several small (6-9) hangars, similar to the Goa'uld Ha'tak. This is in contrast to the battle carriers (that's what I call the battleships with relatively large carrier capacities common in Stargate) of other factions, such as the Jaffa Empire. These have a single hangar deck that spans the entire length (or diameter, depending on the design) of the ship.
As the hangars of the Battle Carriers are designed as multifunctional all-purpose spaces that give the Battle Carriers great versatility, the Republic Ha'tak are more limited in this respect. To compensate for this, Republic Ha'tak can be equipped with mission modules. These extend the functions and capabilities of the respective ship with additional systems. The modules also have short-range engine systems so that they can be decoupled from the mother ship and used as temporary space stations. Several modules can be linked together to adapt the space station to the intended use.
You can see how the Ha'tak deploys a command module (in the foreground, with the three pyramids, used for fleet command etc.), a weapon module (on the left, equipped with various weapon batteries) and a sensor module (on the right). The three modules together form a border outpost that is able to monitor several sectors using sensors, coordinate fleets in this area or carry out customs inspections on a large scale. The decoupling process is monitored by four death gliders and three UCVs.
I'm not entirely satisfied with the superstructure of the Ha'tak. It looks a bit too massive. I will certainly change that.

Re: Ha'tak of the Jaffa Nation (maybe WIP)
It's too hot today to work seriously with the PC. Otherwise the PC will die of heat death. Sketchup hardly generates any heat, so I completely reworked the Ha'tak.
According to the members of the production team of the series "SG-1", the Ha'tak in the series was supposed to have a normal pyramid with four sides. But they made a mistake when building the model, the pyramid became three-sided and they didn't have time to correct it before the model was filmed for the first time. Why they didn't correct it in 10 years of the series is not known.
It's also not clear why I didn't switch to the four-sided pyramid earlier for the Republican Ha'tak, as I did for the Imperial Ha'tak. Anyway, the same scene, but with a four-sided Ha'tak, freshly made. The ship is slightly smaller, lower to be precise. But despite all the changes, the design concept remains the same.

@Okwa It's really hot here too and the PC is warming up the place even more so!
In any case, your latest render looks really good Chris. A bit too massive indeed but you're learning quick from @BKilburn 's advises, I like how you positioned the whole thing, the camera angle and the lighting

Re: Ha'tak of the Jaffa Nation (maybe WIP)
A friend of mine used his PC as a heater in winter years ago. It was only a small room, 8m² if I remember correctly, but still. The heat that a high-performance gaming PC develops when a high-end graphics game is running on the highest graphics setting is kind of scary. Especially for me. I've lost all my PCs to heat death in the last 20 years. Except the last one, which I gave to my nephew. It's still running.Support wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:19 pm @Okwa It's really hot here too and the PC is warming up the place even more so!

Many thanks. I'm quite happy with the new design. I think the Ha'tak no longer looks as massive as the previous version with all the cut-outs for mission modules. Or does it look even more massive? I don't know. Yesterday I thought it didn't look so massive. Today, the new design looks much more massive than the old design. But I think the new design is better, as it increases the Ha'tak's multifunctionality with a larger number of modules. And that is more important to me.
BTW, due to the persistent heat, I continued working on new versions yesterday. Here's the same scene, with a new cruiser design for the Jaffa Nation.

Re: Ha'tak of the Jaffa Nation (maybe WIP)
I always use the best colling and fans, overrated, so it works well even when overclocking. But it does push out a lot of heat when I work.Okwa wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 1:31 am A friend of mine used his PC as a heater in winter years ago. It's massive and it's not It's basically like the moon, when you look at the moon when it's high in the sky, it looks small, but when it's at the horizon between trees, it looks huge. It's all about perspective. Like @BKilburn 's ship with the planet, it looks like the size of the ISS because that's what we know of. Could be 10x bigger too, of even smaller, but based on what we've seen of the ISS with earth in the background, we assume the size. Do I make any sense at all

Re: Ha'tak of the Jaffa Nation (maybe WIP)
@Support Makes sense, of course. Without the possibility of comparison, without an object in the vicinity whose size we can actually estimate, it's just not assessable. Maybe I should create a image with both designs and a death glider very close to the hulls. A death glider is basically the same size as a real fighter jet. That actually gives me an idea.

Yes, yes, it's a good idea and it would be perfectOkwa wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 2:42 pm @Support Makes sense, of course. I couldn't decide because of the angle. I therefore created two versions of the Ha'tak comparison. Two Ha'tak each launch a death glider.

Re: Ha'tak of the Jaffa Nation (maybe WIP)
Yes, they are perhaps a little too inconspicuous. You can see them best in the first image, which shows the Ha'tak from the front. If you look right in the middle of the gap in the superstructure of the respective Ha'tak, you will see a small yellow dot. These are the windows of the cockpits. The gaps are the entrances to the hangar doors. You can best see the death glider in the first image at the left Ha'tak.
In the second picture, the death glider is best seen by the Ha'tak on the right. It is located exactly at the outer end of the gap in the superstructure pointing towards the camera. On the left Ha'tak it is about a finger's width away from the opening in the hull.
I was probably a little too optimistic about the visibility of the little fighters.
